Since this whole site is about using the internet in creative ways for a better game, it seems like it begs the idea of using a blog as a gaming tool. I know a few groups that have forums or a static site but I haven’t seen any of my friends move over to a blog yet.
Some reasons to move:
- You can easily index posts by character, country, date, just about anything you want to make a category. Honestly, I think this alone is the best reason ever to move over to either a blog or a wiki from forums.
- You can give anyone the ability to author posts. You don’t have to go it alone!
- Blogs are more customizable than forums and far easier to edit than a static site.
- I honestly think a blog is easier to set up than a wiki. Although with the number of free wiki sites out there, as well as free blog sites, that’s really a toss-up to personal preference. If you’re installing your own though, a free Wordpress blog like this one is cake compared to forums, let alone using CSS code on a site.
- I think it would really come into it’s own as a supplement for a modern game. It could be the site of a local ragsheet or newspaper.
If anyone who reads this knows any GMs or gaming groups who’ve set up a community blog for their game, let me know. Let me know, too, which would you prefer for your game?
