What’s in a modern home?

One of the things I miss from 1st and 2nd Edition AD&D are the tables. So many tables…. For everything. d20 has some of these but d20 Modern has almost none. The explanation given is that there’s just too much in a modern universe to give tables for what could be found in a packet, car, apartment. Perhaps so but this site sure lists a lot of it and I created these tables for what PCs could find in an apartment based on it. Values are given in current dollars for modern/cyberpunkish games, adjust accordingly.

  1. Industrial Faucet Sculpture ($130) Handmade from a real industrial faucet, this sculpture combines industrial metallurgy with expert glassblowing evoking the look of cool, refreshing water pouring from a nozzle.
  2. Spiral Candleholders ($112) Gorgeous lead-free handmade pewter spirals in a purely whimsical manner.
  3. Violin Scultpure ($220) This simple and stunning sculpture is a graceful metal outline of the beautiful instrument.
  4. Crazy Twig Rectangular Planter ($60) This quaint two-tier shelf feels like its from a cottage on the Maine shore. The frame and shelves are made of strong thick branches and the sides are decorated with smaller, wishbone-shaped branches.
  5. Sugar Mapleleaf Nightlight ($38) This gorgeous night light is made from a real Sugar Maple leaf and preserved in 24 karat antique gold, so it retains its delicate outline and tiny pores and veins just like in nature.
  6. Ying Yang Vases ($320) These handmade vases articulate Yin-Yang’s dualistic nature with sinewy black or white cavities sunk into crystal-clear glass. Their outlines play with the outlines of the surrounding glass, creating a strikingly graphic effect when viewed from the front. The vases fit together to form an elongated oval, adding harmony to any room whether they are placed side-to-side or slightly askew.
  7. Bamboo Spun Infinity Bowl ($45) The organic beauty of bamboo is showcased in a curving geometric profile. This unique spun bamboo bowl is the result of a process involving the splitting of bamboo canes - which are then wrapped into shape to form this unusual bowl.
  8. Hamsa Mezuzah ($130) Mezuzahs are fixed to doorposts for blessing and as a sign of faith, and this gorgeous mezuzah also features a hamsa, an apotropaic amulet for magical protection from the envious or evil eye.
  9. Bamboo “S” Accent Chair ($280) Strips of bamboo come together in a surprisingly fluid form to create the modern profile in the S chair with its dark finish and sculptural contours.
  10. Colorful Eggg Soap ($24) These French-milled egg soaps feature soothing chamomile and meadowsweet extracts along with exfoliating “speckles” of oatmeal and wheat bran. Half a dozen egg soaps come in a quaint glass apothecary jar and sit in a straw “nest”.
  11. Bamboo Shower Curtain ($30) The clear, crisp black and white photo captures the natural texture of real bamboo shoots, while the medium and material of the curtain brings a modern edge to the otherwise earthy subject.
  12. ‘O’ Basket ($70) Made from spun bamboo during a process in which canes are split and wrapped into shape to create this unusual round basket.
  13. Candle Bowl ($68) Made from spun bamboo during a process in which canes are split and wrapped into shape to create this unusual round basket filled with lavender, cucumber and sage wax and three wicks.
  14. Egg Vase ($250) Designed for the spring and inspired by dyed Easter eggs, this seductively shaped hand blown vase evokes creation and celebrates purity with its functionally minimalist design.
  15. Circuit Board Floor Lamp ($900) Circuit boards graduate from interior electronics to interior design with this handsome floor lamp. The ingenious modern design showcases the intricate patterns of recycled circuit boards, while adding a glow as soft as a Japanese lantern.
  16. Tree of Life Wall Hanging ($45) With a stunning pattern of luscious leaves and branches exploding from a gnarled trunk, this folk art wall hanging is breathtaking in its graphic appearance and its universal appeal. Against an off-white background, the black tree of life stands out proudly, showing that the beauty of this world is that we all come from the same roots. The tree of life is made of one single piece of cloth and is flanked by people, animals and a geometric border
  17. Hockey Stick Box ($230) This sturdy, stunning square is handmade with vintage hockey sticks.
  18. Birthstone Globes ($35) Each orb is made from swirls of translucent glass that evoke each month with colors matched to birthstones.
  19. This Sky Wallet ($50) Made from professional-grade cloth gaffer’s tape, this striking wallet is a true work of art, printed with a tranquil panoramic vista - sky, tree, clouds, all accented by baby blue nylon stitching inside and out. The picture itself is achieved by a high-resolution photo-transfer process. It’s lined in waterproof nylon and has for four credit cards pockets and two inside pocket for stashing secret stuff.
  20. Stone Cheese Board ($100) It’s not Swiss, it’s Mexican alabaster! This gorgeous stone lends its luminous color to a clever take on the traditional cheese board.

Stay tuned for the rest of them!
